Well well, what happened to my blog? Too busy reorganizing my life I guess.
So what has all happened in the meantime?
- I moved. Bought a house, and I’m still trying to get organised. I rebuilt a bit and (re)decorated a lot with a lot of help from friends and famlily. Most things went quite well, it’s just my new ISP that messed up quite badly. I just reinstalled my computer and I still lack a decent internet connection. Therefore I hardly used the computer but professionally…
- Professional currently (as of January 15th) means something different altogether. I accepted a position as Senior Developer at Wisdom; a medium sized Dutch I.T. company delivering expert J2EE and .NET services. I was not happy with my job as a Phd Researcher. I will avoid the long story, but I decided to do something I currently think is more relevant again.
- In it’s Wisdom
, my new employer promoted to let me pass my Sun Certified Java Programmer Certification. As I’ve done quite a bit with Java at first I expected the certification to be walk in the park, like the -I know how two knot my shoe laces-testimony modern little children talk about, the new Java 1.5 (or is it Java 5) spec required quite a bit of learning effort. Specifically the new Generics feature is hard; at first it seems great (having typed collection instances), but the implications for the language make it a quite complex feature (type erasure, ? extends Object, T super LinkedList). Even more in combination with other new language features (how to determine which legal function signature matches an invocation for an overloaded method given varargs, auto-boxing, normal subclassing, covariant returns and Generics) - And best of all, and I promise you I wasn’t aware of this before I applied for the job -although it
might promote recruitment-, Wisdom has a regular company trip to India. I’m actually flying to Bangalore tomorrow, and I’ll be hanging around in India for two weeks!
(They’re still looking for well qualified people, so drop me a mail if you’re interested (there seems to be a bonus for bringing in new employees, so I happily provide a shameless plug for my new employer
)
